Urgent Care and After Hours Services

Urgent Care

The Commonwealth and NSW Governments have committed to delivering community-based Urgent Care Clinics and Services to ease pressure on emergency departments and improve access to urgent care options for the community. These Urgent Care Clinics (UCCs) and Urgent Care Services (UCSs) provide free (bulk billed) GP-led care for urgent but not life-threatening illnesses or injuries.

Urgent care provides timely access to the appropriate care for non-life-threatening conditions that require immediate medical attention.

Conditions treated by urgent care:

  • Closed fractures
  • Wounds (or injury requiring stitching)
  • Burns
  • Leg ulcers
  • Gastro
  • Conditions requiring IV rehydration
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Upper respiratory tract conditions
  • Ear, nose, and throat infections
  • Rashes
  • Small abscess drainage

Conditions treated by regular GPs

UCCs and UCSs do not replace the need for a regular GP and cannot provide vaccinations, preventative health screenings, mental health care plans, or chronic disease management. As a PHN, we support care models that maintain the patient-GP relationship and advocate for solutions to address primary care workforce shortages and innovative funding models to sustain general practice.
