Lived Experience Informed Suicide Literacy

We have funded Roses in the Ocean to facilitate Lived Experience Informed Suicide Prevention Workshops in 2024-2025 to support our local workforce and organisations to gain a clearer understanding of the different ways of thinking and practical considerations that have proven to contribute to preventing suicide.

The free seven-hour workshop provides critical insights into suicide prevention coming from the wisdom of people who have lived with suicidal thoughts, survived suicide attempts, supported loved ones through crisis, or lost someone to suicide. Facilitators, including Roses in the Ocean's CEO Bronwen Edwards, will help you use this to inform organisational practices, the supporting of staff, and practical service delivery to people in distress.

After the workshop you will not only be able to be more proactive in recognising and responding to people in need of support but also feel confident playing a role in helping your organisation to take steps in creating workplaces that value the lived experience of:

  • the professional workforce who use their experiences of suicide to support others (also known as the peer workforce)
  • community members
  • recipients of your services
  • advisory groups to your organisation
  • colleagues

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is for anybody employed by government and non-government organisations who is involved in providing services to community members and for those who are seeking to understand suicide more deeply. We encourage attendance from executive teams, management, clinicians, peer workers, community workers, youth workers, administrative staff, and anyone in your organisation wanting to understand more about suicide prevention.
