Childhood Immunisation Program

We invite practices in the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury and Penrith local government areas to express their interest in participating in a three-month Quality Improvement (QI) program aimed at enhancing childhood immunisation rates by at least 2%. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to improving the health and well-being of children in our community.

Background

The program is designed to support general practices in implementing evidence-based strategies to improve immunisation coverage. The program will target paediatric patients aged two years who have missed their scheduled 18-month immunisations. 

What's Involved

Selected participating practices will receive:

  • Access to resources, tools and guidance tailored to improving vaccination rates.
  • Model For Improvement (MFI) & PDSA (Plan Do Study Act) resources and training sessions, with ongoing support.
  • Regular feedback on practice performance and progress toward the 2% improvement target.
  • Nurse Immunisation Scholarship: Each successful practice will be issued a Nurse Immunisation Scholarship through Benchmarque Group.
  • Buzzy Healthcare Kit - a "Buzzy " is a small vibrating device paired with a cold to help reduce pain and anxiety during immunisations, particularly for children. One reusable Buzzy healthcare kit will be provided to each practice.
  • Payments of up to $2,500 (excluding GST) per selected practice.

Eligibility 

  • Practices in the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury or Penrith local govenerment areas will be considered. 
  • Practices willing to commit to the full 3-month program duration including submitting milestone data on time.
  • Agreement to share de-identified data to measure progress and outcomes.

Expectations of Participants

  • Submit three Model for Improvements including completed PDSA cycles (One PDSA required per month).
  • Monitor and report progress on vaccination rates by submitting monthly data.
  • Minimum two practice staff to complete online Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) training. 
  • Participate in one cold chain questionnaire check completed by the PHN at the practice.
  • Attendance at the Immunisation Update 2025 webinar.
