28 August 2023

Suitably qualified heath care professionals for these services include clinical psychologists, psychologists, mental health accredited social workers, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers and credentialled mental health nurses.

About the programs

Psychological Therapy Services (PTS)

The PTS program is an Australian Government initiative for the provision of short-term evidence based mental health services for people with mental illness. Services under this program are designed to give priority to population groups that have difficulty in accessing mental health treatment in the primary care sector or who are unable to have their needs met through better access.

Mental Health Nurse Incentive Program (MHNIP)

The objective of the MHNIP is to provide coordinated clinical care for people with severe mental health disorders and complex needs. MHNIP nurses work closely with psychiatrists and GPs to provide coordinated clinical care and treatment. Services can be provided in a range of settings, such as in clinics, at home and in the community. (Only credentialled mental health nurses may apply for this program).
